   Abstract

The posthumous inventory of the porcelain belonging to Philippe d'Orléans, taken between March and July 1724, shows how much in advance of his time he was in his commissions for porcelain from the Far East, and in his use of porcelain, combined with metal mounts, for lighting purposes. It also indicates that some items of porcelain may be earlier than so far acknowledged.
